Films I’m Looking Forward to in 2024
2024 looks like it is going to be a quite interesting year for the movies - new pairings, new stories, new biopics, and new talent to look out for - and the cinephile in me cannot stop celebrating!
Here are few films which I am really looking forward to in 2024.
Best Shows of 2023
2023 saw a lot of experimentation in terms of shows that were brought to the table. There were shows that catered to almost every emotion and feeling.
Here are my top shows of the year.
Review: Napoleon (2023)
While watching Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, I was instantly drawn into the world. But the characterisation of Joaquin Phoenix somehow did not work for me. Read on to read few thoughts I had while watching the film.
Review: Kohrra (2023)
Created by Pataal Lok creator Sudip Sharma and Clean Slate Films’ Karnesh Ssharma, and directed by Randeep Jha, both history and geography play a pivotal role in Netflix’s Kohrra, in which a murder mystery ends up being an incisive reading of the contemporary landscape of Punjab and the Punjabi psyche.
Lust Stories 2: The Dialogue around Sex, the Male Gaze, & the Fetishisation of the Oppressed
Lust Stories 2 explores the concepts of sex, desire, lust, and satisfaction through four shorts by different filmmakers. However, between the release of its first and second part - has the conversation and discourse around sex and satisfaction changed in India?
Review: The Romantics
The Romantics is a deep dive into a treasure trove of nostalgia that celebrates the legacy of the iconic filmmaker Yash Chopra and Yash Raj Films.
Review: Cinema Marte Dum Tak
An ode to 90s pulp cinema: How Amazon Prime's new docu-series Cinema Marte Dum Tak brings out a subculture that was as ugly as it was charming
The Return of King Khan: Review- Pathaan (2023)
The King is back and how!
Pathaan is a masala packed spy thriller that is nothing short of a blockbuster!
Review: Trial By Fire
The power of people, hope, and resilience is highlighted in this raw and intimate series that is juxtaposed between the crossroads of personal tragedy and systemic negligence.
Best Shows of 2022
2022 saw a lot of experimentation in terms of shows that were brought to the table. There were shows that catered to almost every emotion and feeling.

Review: Chup - Revenge of the Artist (2022)
Chup: Revenge of the Artist, written by R Balki, Rishi Varman and critic Raja Sen, is a love letter to Hindi cinema that also highlights the love-hate relationship that makers share with film critics who with their writing and verdict can make it break a film and the hard work that goes behind making it.
Review: Brahmastra (2022)
With Amar Chitra Katha-type storytelling and Marvel world-building, Brahmastra, the 10-year-long vision, imagination, and sweat of filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee delves into a rich world of magic and mysticism. His home-grown superhero fantasy is a three-part trilogy, that stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead roles in the first part.
Review: Dobaara
An official remake of the Spanish film Mirage, Dobaara, written by Nihit Bhave and directed by Anurag Kashyap, is a mind-boggling time-travel adventure that keeps you gripped.
Review: Good Luck Jerry (2022)
Good Luck Jerry, the Hindi remake of the Nayanthara starrer Kolamaayu Kokila is a good ‘fun on the run’. Written by Pankaj Matter, and directed by Siddharth Sengupta the film has a pretty tight narrative, mixed up judiciously with laughs, twists, and turns.
Review: Shabaash Mithu (2022)
Right off the bat, Shabaash Mithu tells the story of a remarkable woman in a very formulaic way, wherein the makers see the subject with a halo and the others in muted shades.
The film’s poster tells us that it is the “untold story of women in blue”, however, the film focuses only on one woman, and that too, partially.
Review: JugJugg Jeeyo (2022)
Laughter and emotions are the two principal elements in Dharma Productions and Viacom 18’s latest, Jugjugg Jeeyo, which, after a relatively calm first half, dives into an uproarious second half crammed with revelations and concealments.
Review: Masoom (2022)
Directed by Mihir Desai, Masoom is a slow-burn psychological thriller that subtly brings forth the concept of Indian fatherhood - to nurture at the cost of love, or to control at the cost of trust.
Review: Janhit Mein Jaari
Janhit Mein Jaari, the latest social drama film to hit theatres chooses a woman to tell the story about the plight of women. It uses humor well enough to make a point - that it’s no sin to talk about protection during sex.
Review: Samrat Prithviraj (2022)
A fanciful depiction of history, draped in the glossiest finery is what sums up Samrat Prithviraj. Written and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, this period drama sees Akshay Kumar play Prithviraj Chauhan, the 12th Century ruler of Ajmer who was the last Hindu ruler of India.
Review: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, written by Aakash Kaushik and Farhad Samji is said to be a ‘stand-alone film’ but you can’t help compare but it to its first part. While there's nothing common in this sequel and the first part -except Manjulika, the background score (which plays almost throughout the film), and the song Ami Je Tomar, you still find yourself comparing.
